چکیده

Furthermore, our results show similar effects in patients with or without ventricular dysfunction, an important fact taking into account that the prevalence of hyponatremia is similar in both groups. Therefore, tolvaptan administration in unselected patients with decompensated HF and symptomatic refractory hyponatremia significantly increases sodium concentrations and excretion rhythm without significantly affecting kidney function.

Clinical utility of tolvaptan in the management of hyponatremia in heart failure patients

Hyponatremia is an electrolyte disorder frequently observed in several clinical settings and common in hospitalized patients with decompensated heart failure (HF). It is caused by deregulation of arginine vasopressin (AVP) homeostasis associated with water retention in hypervolemic or in euvolemic states. While hypervolemic hypotonic hyponatremia is also seen in advanced liver cirrhosis, renal ...

Case report of domiciliary treatment with Tolvaptan in patients with advanced heart failure and persistent hyponatremia

Management of patients with advanced heart failure and persistent hyponatremia remains a difficult challenge today. Classical treatment is not always enough, not only because of diuretics resistance, but also because of the natural course of heart failure and several comorbidities. Tolvaptan, a V2 receptor inhibitor in the kidneys, has demonstrated its utility and safety in refractory hyponatre...

Acute heart failure volume control multicenter randomized (AVCMA) trial: Comparison of tolvaptan and carperitide

BACKGROUND [corrected] Acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) is a common and highly morbid cardiovascular disorder. Diuresis is a major therapy for the reduction of congestive symptoms. However, most diuretics cause hyponatremia, which is a worsening factor of ADHF patients prognosis. The purpose of this study was to examine the efficacy and safety of tolvaptan, which is a selective vasopres...
